(Quality Assurance Department)
The Quality Assurance (Q.A.) Department forms a part of the R&D wing of Gharda Chemicals Ltd., Dombivli, Dist.Thane, Maharashtra State, India. The total floor area of this dept. at Dombivli, is about 10,000 sq.ft.
The staff strength of the Q.A.dept. at Dombivli is 68. This consists of 33 officers, 22 chemists, and 12 lab assistants/attendants. There are 11 Ph.Ds, 19 M.Sc. degree holders and 22 B.Sc. degree holders in the department.
Adequate
facilities and expertise exist for carrying out classical (wet) methods
of chemical analysis and most of the modern instrumental methods of analysis. The modern
sophisticated instruments available include several analytical balances, Gas
chromatographs (with TCD, FID, NPD, ECD and GDD), HPLC units (with UV/visible, RI and
Fluorescence detectors), UV-visible spectrophotometer, FTIR spectrophotometer,
HPTLC, Elemental analyser, GC-MS, NMR, Surface area measuring equipment, Thermal
analytical equipments, SEC and high temperature SEC, several Environmental monitoring
equipments including TOC analyser, Gas/Vapour monitoring equipments, etc.
The Q.A. dept. caters to the needs of the Production/ Marketing/ Engineering and other departments, besides giving full-fledged analytical support (R&D Analytical functions) to our synthetic R&D dept.
The department works in three shifts on all the 7 days (with staggering shifts) in a week. The total number of analytical determinations carried out comes to around 14000 per month.
The
Q.A. dept. has obtained GLP and ISO 9001 accreditations from
Quality Assurance Services, Australia, and National Accreditation Board for 
Testing
Laboratories (NABL) of the Govt. of India.
The
Q.A. dept. has developed adequate capabilities and expertise to carry out various kinds of
analyses (as per OECD/EPA guidelines wherever applicable) such as - 
a) Evaluation of Physico-chemical properties of pesticides/drugs
b) Five batch analysis
c) Impurity profiles including determination of moisture content
d) Validation of analytical data by appropriate procedures
e) Participation in Proficiency testing programs
f) Development of validated analytical procedures for the analysis of major/minor/trace/ultra trace components.
g) Pesticide residue analysis
h) Shelf life studies
i) Vendor evaluation
