

Over the past 32 years Gharda Chemicals has
received six National Awards for original technical innovation in the chemical industry.
Of these, four have been the prestigious Sir P.C. Ray Award. In 1989, Gharda was honoured with the Ministry of Science and Technology
Award for the Best
in-house R&D in the Chemical Industry, and the ICMA Award for Process Design and Engineering of Chemical Plants. In December 1991,
Gharda received the Chemexcil
First Export Award for
outstanding export performance.
The Sir P.C. Ray Award
This is
awarded to the best industrial unit developed by indigenous endeavour in the chemical
industry in India and it is been a great pleasure and honour for Gharda Chemicals Limited
to be the recepient of this award FOUR times.
Initially Gharda Chemicals
research was directed to products required in India. Though none of these products were
new, significant innovations in the manufacturing processes were developed. This won the
company the prestigious Sir P.C. Ray Award which is instituted by the Indian Chemicals
Manufacturing Association. Gharda Chemicals has been honoured by this Award on the
following four seperate occasions:

Sir P.C. Ray Award for Ingrain Dyes. |

Sir P.C. Ray Award for Dyestuff Intermediates. |

Year 1977, The
Sir P.C. Ray Award for Fine Chemicals. |

Sir P.C. Ray Award for Veterinary Drugs and Pesticides. |
No other Indian
company has won this Award more than twice.
The Ministry of Science and
Technology Award
The
Department of Scientific and Industrial Research of the Ministry of Science and Technology
(Government Of India) presented the National Award for R&D efforts in industry to
Gharda Chemicals in the year 1988. This Award was honoured on Gharda Chemicals because of
its outstanding achievements in the Chemical and Allied Sector. Gharda had successfully
developed an innovative process for Cypermethric Acid Chloride starting with indigenously
available acrylonitrile and carbon tetrachloride which is claimed to have been
commercialised for the first time in the world, with an annual capacity of 100 tonnes with
all indigenous equipment.
The ICMA Award
In 1988, the
Indian Chemicals Manufacturers Association honoured Gharda Chemicals Limited with The ICMA
Award for Process Design and Engineering of Chemical Plants.
The Chemexcil
First Award
In 1991,
Gharda Chemicals Limited received the Chemexcil First Export Award for outstanding export
performance.
The Chemexcil Second Award
In 1994-95,
Gharda Chemicals Limited received the Chemexcil Second Award for exports.
The Chemexcil Trishul Award
In 1995-96,
Gharda Chemicals Limited received the prestigious Chemexcil Trishul Award for outstanding
exports among large scale manufacturers, including all chemical sectors.

With
an initial investment of less than one hundred thousand rupees, Gharda chemicals started
out as a partnership firm in 1964, when the founder and presently the Chairman &
Managing Director, Dr. K.H. Gharda and the late Mr. R.M. Kawasmaneck assisted by ten
non-graduate employees, commenced manufacture of two products-a textile auxillary and
ingrain brilliant blue. Both products were being manufactured for the first time in India
and found a ready market. And the partnership company was converted into a Private Limited
company on 7th March, 1967. We wish to share our further achievements with you which we
have summarised below:

Our exports increased from a
meagre Rs.28 crores in 1993-94 to Rs.49 crores in 1994-95 to Rs.118 crores in 1995-96 and
Rs.164 crores in 1996-97. |

among the world's top producers of high quality agrochemical products. |

Our company received EPA
approval in the USA for Chlorpyrifos technical and a number of liquid and granular
formulations of generic chlorpyrifos in the year 1997. |

Gharda Chemicals Limited became
the first Indian company to enter the US market with its own registration. The company now
manufactures chlorpyrifos with 99%+ purity in its world class plant at our Lote plant and
exports the same to the North American market. |

Last year, Gharda introduced
Metamitron (min. 98% purity), Triclopyr (min. 98% purity) and deltamethrin (min 98.5%
purity) using its own in-house technology. |

In mid 1998, Gharda received EPA
approval in the US for Dicamba Technical (min. 985 purity). The company now manufactures
Dicamba with 98%+ purity in its world class plant at Lote. |

Gujarat Insecticides Limited, a
subsidiary of Gharda Chemicals Limited, is among the top Indian producers and exporters of
MPB, Cypermethrn, Fenvalerate, Quinalphos and Carbendazim. |

Gharda is also the proud
achiever of ISO 9001 Certification for all its 3 manufacturing plants including Gujarat
Insecticides Limited. |

The company has also received
Good Laboratory Practices Certification and ISO 9002 accreditations from Quality Assurance
Services, Australia, and National Accreditation Board for Testing Laboratories (NABL) of
the Government of India for its Quality Assurance Department at its Dombivli plant. |
